GEK Attorneys' On-Going Search for Knowledge
Attorneys from Gordon, Edelstein, Krepack, Grant, Felton & Goldstein, LLP (GEK) are passionate about learning—be it about changes in the law, new technology, medical advancements—if it can enhance their representation of injured workers, they're all in. This is precisely why twice a year they join their fellow members of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association (CAAA) for the organization's conference, three full days of education.
Covered topics during the 2017 winter convention included, protecting injured workers' collateral benefits, such as pensions and state disability, the art of cross-examining doctors, dissecting evidence-gathering techniques and handling catastrophic injuries.
"Knowledge is power, and with the ever-changing workers' compensation laws, it is imperative that we—as advocates for those who are hurt at work—not only gather the necessary information but also share it with those who are also fighting the good fight," says Richard Felton, a GEK partner.
Among GEK's team of attorneys are long-time members of CAAA who have handed down the concept that great lawyers are well-informed advocates for their clients. You can't be the best if you don't continue to discover and learn. And, you can't do it alone; participation is vital.
This is precisely why GEK attorneys Adam Dombchik and Alvaro Lizarraga were not only students during the conference, but also participants. Dombchik was a panelist and co-moderator for a discussion of treatment practice tips, including how injured workers can obtain medical care for a denied claim. And, Lizarraga helped man CAAA's Latino Caucus booth where he spoke to visitors about the challenges faced by injured undocumented Latino workers, and provided them with ways to donate to the cause.
GEK attorneys will continue to stand firm and stand beside their clients to ensure their voices are heard.
