The New Year Brings Mileage Reimbursement Hike
As the new year unfolds we renew our commitment—as we have done for more than three decades—to fight for justice for those injured on and off the job. We begin 2011 with an increase in a basic benefit for those who have been hurt at work.
As of January 1, 2011, the reimbursement rate for medical mileage—such as transportation to and from the treating physician, physical therapy and the pharmacy—has been increased to 51 cents a mile.
“Whether your case is closed with lifetime medical benefits or you have an active case pending, you are entitled to be reimbursed for mileage expenses,” says Adam Dombchik, a partner in the law firm of Gordon, Edelstein, Krepack, Grant, Felton & Goldstein, LLP.
Once you receive a mileage reimbursement form from your insurance carrier, complete it accurately and submit it to your adjustor every 30 to 60 days, making note of the date. Keep a copy for your records and, if you are represented by counsel, send a copy to your attorney.
“The change in mileage reimbursement may seem minor, but it’s just an example of how laws relating to Workers’ Compensation are constantly changing. For injured workers to receive the full range of benefits to which they are entitled, it is imperative to be represented by an attorney who keeps up to date on the legal landscape.”
